Treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Approach: Case Report

Abstract
Medication and cognitive behavioral therapies are among the most commonly used treatment approaches in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which is a severe mental health disorder, recently. In particular, the fact that cognitive behavioral therapy, a psychotherapy method, can be applied to individuals of all ages, has fewer side effects, and the effectiveness of treatment has made this method important for clinicians in the disorder. In this case study, the treatment process related to cognitive behavioral therapy techniques and relaxation exercises training applied to a 24-year-old female client with obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms was explained. The client, who reports that he has been experiencing symptoms of discomfort since high school, has various compulsive actions that he has developed to suppress cleaning, doubt / control, religious and losing obsessions and anxiety caused by them. In relation to this, it is aimed to eliminate the client's symptoms and increase his functionality during the 12-session treatment process with cognitive behavioral therapy practices and relaxation exercises, starting with psychoeducation.
