Adaptation of the Affect in Play Scale - Preschool Version to Turkish
Main Article Content
Abstract
The aim of the present study is to adapt the Affect Play Scale (Preschool Version) developed by Kaugars and Russ (2009) into the Turkish culture. The study group of the research consisted of 132 children aged 48-72 months. Adaptation studies of the scale started with language validity studies, and after expert opinion on the translations, the scale was finalized with linguistic equivalence and preliminary pilot study. Confirmatory Factor Analysis was performed to determine the construct validity of the scale, and it was seen that the scale consisted of two dimensions and the correlation between them was 0.890. It was observed that the factor load values varied between 0.708 and 0.903, and fit indices were also used in addition to the factor load values. The Cronbach α coefficient for reliability is .915 for the cognitive dimension and .441 for the affective dimension, and the McDonald ω coefficient is close to 1 for both dimensions. Test-retest and inter-rater reliability coefficients are also significant and high. It has been determined that the scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool for measuring the affect of children between the ages of 48-72 months during play.
