Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Major Depressive Disorder: A Case Report

Abstract
The study was carried out considering the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria. The client showing the symptoms is 25 years old and male. The sessions were conducted according to the cognitive behavioral therapy school. The client stated that his life was going badly because he had been unemployed for a year. He stated that he was unemployed for a long time and that he had a bad effect with the emergence of some problems in his life. The level of complaints increased day by day with the client seeing himself as an inadequate individual and accompanying depressed, anxious and unhappy mood. The client stated that he tried to solve these situations on his own, but was unsuccessful. He stated that his life became more difficult because he was not successful. The therapies were started with the client, who was convinced that he needed support from his environment. First, the client was given psychoeducation about what cognitive behavioral therapy is, how it progresses, and the course of therapy. The development of the therapeutic relationship with the client has been achieved. The course of therapy was first discussed from a cognitive perspective. In the cognitive domain, the client's automatic thoughts and basic beliefs were determined. After the cognitive aspect, it is discussed from the behavioral point of view. From the behavioral point of view, behavioral techniques suitable for the client were used. Thanks to these steps of cognitive behavioral therapy, important gains will be gained on the depressed, unhappy feelings of depression and inadequacy that the client feels in himself.
