A Systematic Review on The Use of CBT in Adults with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Main Article Content
Abstract
Obsessive compulsive disorder is a psychiatric disorder that continues with obsessions, compulsions and various other symptoms, which significantly affects the life of the persons. Cognitive behavioral therapy is known as the most preferred psychotherapy method in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. The aim of this study is to review the literature on the use of cognitive behavioral therapy in adults with obsessive compulsive disorder with a systematic review method and to investigate the effectiveness of CBT on OCD. In this study process, all details such as identifying and selecting articles were carried out using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) guidelines. During the research process, Turkish studies on the use and effectiveness for cognitive behavioral therapy in obsessive compulsive disorder between 2012 and 2022 were examined using only Google Scholar. Only studies involving adults were included in this systematic review. 2 studies that met the inclusion criteria were considered. The 2 studies discussed were carried out in Ankara, Turkey in the years 2014-2019. One of the studies included in the evaluation is a survey study and the other is a thesis study. As a result of the studies examined, it was observed that the applied cognitive and behavioral intervention techniques had a great effect on reducing OCD symptoms and making the disorder go towards recovery. The very limited number of studies in Turkey necessitates further studies on the use and effectiveness of CBT in the treatment of OCD.
