Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the digital game phenomenon sociologically. Within the scope of the study, the development, effects and types of digital game together with the concept of game are mentioned. The digital game has set an example of simulacrum by getting rid of the traditional game and reproducing it on the screens. In this way, the digital game, which has a unique story, player and set of rules, has displayed a postmodern identity. At the same time, digital games have turned into tools in which individuals express themselves in the spiral of consumption. The digital game, which has turned into a global industry with a sectoral structure, has found a response in the consumption society. In addition, digital games, platforms and genres demanded in daily life have created a culture of consumption. Where and how the digital game is demanded, what its content is and what effects it has gained value with symbols. According to the literature review, it has been determined that the digital game phenomenon has a social impact with the developing technology.
