Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aims to reveal the current situation and development of diving tourism on these coasts within the framework of the views of underwater diving tourism stakeholders on the coasts of Sili^e and Erdemli districts, to identify the problems experienced and to create the necessary strategies in terms of guiding the future of diving tourism. In this research, semistructured interview technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the process of data collection. Interviews were conducted with 5 managers and 7 diving instructors of different age levels working in five diving schools operating in Sili^e and Erdemli districts of Mersin province. The data obtained through the semi-structured interview form were grouped according to the degree of relationship and subjected to content analysis. Based on the results of the research, the participants stated that the coasts of Sili^e and Erdemli districts have a high potential in terms of elements that create aEraction in underwater diving tourism. However, due to reasons such as insufficient coastal structures, lack of publicity and the low number of diving schools, the development of diving tourism is limited. It was found that unauthorised hunting on the coasts of the region negatively affects the underwater fauna and therefore diving tourism. In addition, it is suggested that more artificial reef areas should be created in order to reduce the pressure that may occur in diving sites on the coasts of the region.
