The Anxiety Levels of Associate Degree Students Taking the Accounting Course Regarding Accounting Test: The Case of Anamur Vocational School

Abstract

In this study, it was tried to determine the anxiety levels of associate degree students studying at Anamur Vocational School and taking accounting courses regarding the accounting test. It has been investigated whether anxiety regarding accounting test differs in terms of various characteristics such as gender, grade level, education program, cumulative grade point average, taking accounting courses in high school and career goals. The population of the research consists of a total of 112 students. The convenience sampling method was chosen. 67 students, who filled out the questionnaires face-to-face, formed the sample of the research. The Revised Test Anxiety Scale was used to collect data. Exploratory factor analysis was used to determine how many subdimensions the scale consisted of. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to test the hypotheses regarding the difference. As a result of the research, it was observed that students’ test anxiety appeared in the form of bodily symptoms, tension, and test irrelevant thinking. A significant difference was found in terms of gender for the dimensions of tension and bodily symptoms, except for the dimension of test irrelevant thinking, but no significant difference was found in any dimension of anxiety regarding accounting test in terms of grade level, education program, cumulative grade point average, taking accounting courses in high school and career goals.
