Curiosity at Work: A Conceptual Evaluation

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide a theoretical basis for future studies on the subject by conducting a detailed and systematic review of the research on curiosity in the workplace. Another purpose is to emphasize the importance of curiosity for organizations and to present practices and suggestions that can be implemented to develop curiosity in the workplace. For this purpose, a literature review was conducted by adopting a qualitative research approach and a survey model. First of all, the concept of curiosity in the workplace, the importance of curiosity, its benefits and the barriers to curiosity are explained, and in the conclusion part of the research, recommendations are listed including the steps that can be taken by organizations that want to develop curiosity in the workplace. As a result of the research, it was concluded that it is extremely important to carry out planned studies to increase the curiosity awareness of existing employees in organizations and to create an organizational climate that encourages asking questions and curiosity. In addition, another important result obtained from the research is that the curiosity levels of the candidates should be taken into account, among other criteria, in the recruitment processes to be carried out especially for positions where innovation is important.
