Abstract

Throughout history, humanity has communicated in various ways and developed the process of socialization. With technological developments and the modernization of societies, written communication has come to play a central role, especially on social media platforms. There are many special expression patterns on social media. These include emojis, abbreviations and slang words. As technological developments change rapidly, social media platforms are constantly evolving to keep pace. Naturally, in order to keep up with this speed, communication is also established quickly and the language used, especially in written communication, must also be realized quickly. This speed can lead to carelessness, as well as ignoring features such as grammar or sentence structure that should be considered in language use. Even if this fast communication flow causes written communication to be done without paying attention to the rules, it is not possible to say that social media has a positive or negative effect on language use in real life. As a matter of fact, as people change their language use according to the people they communicate with, they also adjust the language they use according to the environment.
