Educational Profile of Academicians Working in Tourism Departments

Abstract
Tourism vocational education is given by many institutions and organizations at formal and non-formal education level. It is very important to train qualified personnel in the development of the tourism sector. The most important part of this education is academics. In this research, the educational profiles of academicians who work as managers in tourism departments at the undergraduate level were examined. As a data collection method in the research, descriptive survey model, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that tourism graduates are more involved in administrative duties than in previous years. Academicians graduated from departments such as Fisheries Engineering, Fishing and Processing of Fisheries, Grassland and Forage Crops, Field Crops, Medical Biochemistry, Geodesy and Photogrammetry Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Agricultural Machinery and Technologies, which do not have much interest in the field of tourism, can be employed in management positions within tourism education. It has been revealed that 31.2% of deans and managers' undergraduate areas, 34% of master's areas and 27.6% of doctoral areas are directly related to the field of tourism. It has been determined that 65.6% of the undergraduate areas, 53.9% of the graduate areas and 56.8% of the doctoral areas of the vice deans and assistant managers are directly related to the field of tourism. It has been determined that 71.1% of the undergraduate fields, 66.4% of the graduate fields and 62% of the doctoral fields of the department heads are directly related to the field of tourism.
