An Evaluation on the Satisfaction of Teachers Working in the Public and Private Sector with Regard to the Teaching Profession

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to reveal the satisfaction of public and private sector teachers regarding the teaching profession. In the research the opinions of teachers working in public and private schools in Antalya, Burdur and Isparta were tried to be explained by using field data. The sample of the study consists of a total of 510 teachers, 291 from Antalya, 95 from Burdur and 124 from Isparta in the 2017-2018 academic year. A survey of 70 questions was applied to the sample and the data were interpreted using the chi-square tests. As a result of the research, it has been determined that teachers working in the public and private sectors in Antalya, Burdur and Isparta are satisfied with the teaching profession. The main reason why teachers are satisfied with their profession are that the teaching profession is suitable for their personal qualities and the appropriate working conditions. The reasons why teachers are happy for where they work in vary depending on the sectoral characteristics.
