Traditional Tailoring Profession Its Reflections in The Press

Abstract

Recently, news about the tailoring profession and tailors have been in the press a lot. In the study, it is aimed to reveal the situation of the tailoring profession, which was once a favorite profession, in our country, with its reflections in the press. When was the last time you went to a tailor? And what's the last outfit you had sewn? The importance of the study becomes evident when we ask the questions to ourselves. It is a known fact that the interest in the tailoring profession has decreased with the introduction of ready-made clothing into our lives. The aim of the study is to examine the tailoring profession through the news in the press. In the study, the status of the tailoring profession, its problems, the reasons for the problems and the suggestions for the solution of the questions are sought through the news in the press. In the study, news about the tailoring profession in the press between 2016-2020 were scanned and content analysis was applied to this news. It has been determined that the traditional tailoring profession has lost its former importance and today's tailors are faced with many problems. The foremost of the problems is that the tailors, who progress with the apprenticeship, cannot find apprentices and cannot resist against ready-made clothing products with the effect of technological progress and fashion.
