Digital Gaming Addiction, Behavior Problems and Academic Performance: A Bibliometric Mapping

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the tendency towards research in the field of game addiction, behavior problems and academic performance with the analysis of co-authorship, bibliographic coupling, co-occurrence, and citation by taking into consideration of author, publication, keyword, journal, country, university and citation variables. VOSviewer software was used for bibliometric analysis. As a result of the bibliometric analysis, it was determined that the most effective countries in terms of studies on game addiction and behavior problems were the USA, England and Australia. According to the keyword co-occurrence analysis, it was determined that keywords such as internet gaming addiction, internet addiction, smartphone addiction, video game addiction, addiction and gaming disorder were prominent in the field of gaming addiction and behavior disorder. The results show that game addiction and behavioral problems researches are handled with the focus of current developments.
