The Investigation of Relationship Between Gender Roles, Parenting Styles and Early Maladaptive Schemas of Women in Emerging Adulthood

Abstract
Behaviors of individuals or even adults falling approximately to the range of 18-29 are observed to change during the passing phase to the adulthood. Any kind of roles the society attribute to woman and man, designating similarities and differences between genders and their meanings in terms of socio-cultural aspects may be the subjects to the definitions of gender. It is defined that the reflections of woman and man in society can explain its meaning through gender roles. Parenting attitudes have an important role on their children as these attitudes have effects both on their todays and future. The investigation of relationship between gender roles, parenting styles and early maladaptive schemas of women in emerging adulthood. This study has been designed in accordance with correlational survey model. It is hereby aimed to determine the existence and/or degree of one or more variables together. The selection of sample has been determined with simple random sampling. The population of the research consists of women residing in Istanbul falling between ages 18-29. A meaningful distinction between the gender roles and being a subject to domestic violence has been determined. It has been seen that the ones who have been a subject of domestic violence have higher total points of gender roles.
