Abstract

Climate change, driven by global warming and both natural and anthropogenic degradation, poses significant threats to nature and living organisms through issues such as air pollution, depletion of water resources, and ozone layer thinning. This phenomenon profoundly impacts the tourism sector, which is not only human-centric but also highly dependent on seasonal weather patterns. Accordingly, this study aims to elucidate the consequences of climate change on the tourism industry and assess the academic interest in this topic. To this end, a systematic literature review, a qualitative research method, was conducted to analyze national and international Turkish-language literature. Using the DergiPark database, studies related to climate and tourism were retrieved based on predefined keywords (sustainable tourism, green tourism, and climate change in tourism). Given the curiosity about the current situation in Turkey and considering the intensity of research, studies published between 2019 and 2023 were examined, resulting in the identification of 42 research articles through systematic literature reporting steps. The study contributes to understanding the effects of climate change on tourism, advances academic and practical insights, and provides an understanding of climate awareness and trends related to the topic.
