A Cinematic Manifestation of Dominant Ideology Aestheticized with Humor: Muhsin Bey

Abstract
This study aims to analyze the film Muhsin Bey [Mr. Muhsin] (1987) by Yavuz Turgul, who has a special place as a screenwriter and director in Turkish cinema, through the concept of ideology in the context of the reflections of the changes in the social field on culture. In this study, which argues that there is an affirmative consensus on Muhsin Bey within the academia and cinema society, the ideological codes of the approach to social change and cultural differences are analyzed through the characters Turgul created, and in this context, it is argued that the worldview and values presented through the arabesque, nostalgia, degeneration and cultural conflict motifs rendered in the film are aestheticized with humor and express a marginalizingexclusionary ideology.
