Abstract

XIX. century has been an era of change and transformation in the Ottoman Empire, where significant reforms have been made. One of these innovations; the male population throughout the country is counted and registered. In 1831 the first census in the Ottoman Empire in the modern sense was made during the reign of II. Mahmut. As a result of these censuses, important historical documents which reveal the basic characteristics of the population structure throughout the country were put forward. These documents, which are kept with the code of NFS.d (Population Registers) in the Presidential Ottoman Archives, contain important information in the local sense as well as important information in terms of the internal structure of the Ottoman Empire. In this study, the promotion and evaluation of Muslim population of Van province, Van sanjak, Van (nefs) town and neighborhood registered as NFS.d code in number 2794 and 2796 have been made.
