Professional Problems Experienced by Female Employees in Travel Agencies: The İstanbul Example

Abstract

In our country, women's employment is increasing day by day in different sectors. As the number of employees increases, problems related to business life are also increasing. As the problems in business life increase, academic studies in this field are also increasing day by day. The main purpose of this study is to determine the professional problems experienced by women working in travel agencies and to offer solutions. In this context, female personnel working in various positions in travel agencies in Istanbul were selected as the research sample. The interview technique, a qualitative research method, was used as the data collection method in the research. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 female personnel working in five travel agencies operating in Istanbul. The obtained data were analyzed with Descriptive Analysis, one of the qualitative analysis methods. As a result of the research, it is understood that the participants who participated in the research have similar thoughts to a large extent; women are discriminated against in the travel sector and other sectors of tourism, women are exposed to various pressures in the work environment and social life and are given more responsibilities, and they face mobbing, harassment and bullying.
