Effect of Work-Family Conflict on Employee Performance: A Study on Public and Private Sector Employees

Abstract

In evolving and changing world, the social, cultural and social structures of people change, as well. Work and family life and working conditions of individuals are changing and affected by these changes. Employee performance is an important indicator of organizational success as well as individual success. Changing and challenging conditions can cause conflict between employees' work and family life. This conflict directly affects the performance of employees. In this study, the effects of work-family conflict on employee performance were analyzed by various variables. In this research, the sample was selected and applied among employees
working for public institution and private sector in Ankara. A questionnaire including questions related to the selected sampling was applied. As a result of the study, it was determined that the work-family conflict levels of the employees affect the employee performance negatively and significantly. In the study, it was seen that the private or public institution that the employees worked had a significant differentiation on the work-family conflict and employee performance and the effect level of the private institutions were higher than the public institutions. As a result of the analyzes, it is observed that work-family conflict and employee performance levels do not differ in terms of gender, age range, marital status and managerial position in the area where the study is applied.
