The Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes Specifically on Education and Children

Abstract

In the recent history (6 February 2023) in Turkey, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 in Pazarcık district and a magnitude of 7.6 in Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş. In this earthquake, which is considered as the third earthquake with the most destructive effect in Turkey's history, 11 provinces of Turkey were affected by devastating effects and many provinces were shaken by the intensity of the earthquake. In this context, besides physical and material losses, great loss of life has occurred. After the earthquake, a state of emergency was declared in 11 provinces and education was suspended for two weeks across the country. While the earthquake shows its cold color to all people, it is thought that it also affects children in many ways. The aim of this research is to determine the destructive effects of the earthquake and to conduct a field survey in order to demonstrate appropriate pedagogical approaches to children after the earthquake. In this context, it is aimed to develop appropriate suggestions by examining the earthquakes in Turkey and the studies on children.
