Psychiatric Examination of Forensic Cases with Suicide ABempts

Abstract

The aim of the study was to obtain a general picture of individuals who attempted suicide and to evaluate the risk factors of suicide-related causes of death. In addition, the study was examined from a psychiatric perspective since the mental health problems at the origins of suicide attempts are an important social problem. The data of individuals who came to Balıkesir Atatürk City Hospital Forensic Medicine Polyclinic with a suicide attempt between 01.11.2021-31.07.2022 and whose forensic reports were prepared were examined retrospectively. The data of 108 cases included in the study were analyzed with SPSS V23. The average age of the cases included in the study is 23.26; 47 of them were men, 61 were women; It was determined that 39 of them were married and 69 were single. The xenobiotic substances used in suicide attempts were found to be in toxic doses in 20 of the cases; 87 of them used medical drugs for suicide; It is claimed that suicide attempts are mostly caused by individual factors; It was determined that 92 of them had no history of suicide attempts. It is recommended to inform the society about the issues that may affect the act of suicide, to introduce the resources that can provide psychological support to the society, and to raise awareness about the consequences of suicide.
