Abstract

This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Turkish form of the Nurses’ Environmental Awareness Scale (NEAS) and to test its validity and reliability in a sample of nurses. The study was conducted between December 2022 and March 2023, with 200 nurses volunteering to participate. Construct validity was tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis. The IBM SPSS Statistics version 24.0 package program and R Project 4.2.2 R Studio version 4.2.2 software were used for data analysis. In the first stage of the study, language equivalence and content validity were ensured. According to the results of the CFA, the 26-item and six-factor structure of the NEAS was confirmed. The fit indices obtained after the first level CFA were acceptable. The item factor loadings of the sub-factors were between 0.29 and 0.86. As a result of the reliability analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient is between 0.80 and 0.87 for all sub-dimensions. The validated construct of the Turkish version of the NEAS is a measurement tool with high content validity and internal consistency that has the characteristics to measure the awareness and practice behaviors of Turkish nurses toward reducing the environmental impacts of nursing practices.
