Analyzing Research on Tourism Legislation through Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the studies on tourism legislation published in the Web of Science (WoS) database through bibliometric analysis. In line with this objective, 1,400 studies on tourism legislation in the WoS database were analyzed. In the study, a search was conducted with the keyword "Tourism Legislation". In addition to "Tourism Legislation", related concepts such as "Travel Law, Tourism Laws and Tourism Legislation" were also included in the search. Thus, a comprehensive search was conducted on WoS using different keywords related to the subject. VOSviewer software was used to analyze and visualize the data obtained. According to the results of the research, the number of studies and publications on tourism legislation started in 1985 and the number of studies in this field has increased significantly especially since the 2000s. When the publications are analyzed according to subject areas, it is observed that tourism legislation is addressed by different disciplines. Studies on this subject have been conducted in various fields such as social sciences, environmental sciences, economics and law. When the languages of the publications are analyzed, it is found that English is the most common language in this field. Spanish and Portuguese are also important languages, but Turkish is less commonly used in this field. Publications were analyzed according to their authors, showing the leading authors in this field and their influence. In terms of countries, it was determined that countries such as the UK, Spain and the USA are actively working in this field. Finally, the institutions to which the publications belong were analyzed and the leading universities and research institutions in this field were identified. Among the relevant institutions, Univ Aegean, Oxford University and the Italian National Research Council were found to be among the prominent ones.
