Examining Teachers' Perceptions of Multicultural Competence in Terms of Various Variables

Abstract
With this research, it is aimed to determine the multicultural competence perceptions of the teachers working in various cities and schools in Turkey and to reveal the perspectives of the teachers on multicultural education. The study was completed by applying the cross-section model, which is included in the general scanning models, in this study. The study group of this research, which was carried out in the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year, consisted of teachers working in schools in various provinces of Turkey, both public and private, providing education in various types and degrees. In the study, the maximum variation sampling method, which is one of the purposive sampling methods, was preferred. 225 teachers participated in the study. Developed by Guyton and Wesche (2005); The "Multicultural Efficacy Scale", adapted into Turkish by Akcaoğlu and Arsal (2018), was used in this study to collect data. Based on the research findings, it was concluded that the multicultural attitudes, experience and proficiency levels of the teachers participating in the study were moderate, and the multicultural competence perceptions of the teachers participating in the study did not differ significantly according to gender. As a result of this research, studies on the education of teachers and other stakeholders can be carried out by conducting research on the way to be followed, with the recognition of the cultures of the teachers and the environment where the school is located, in order to create multicultural education environments in our country and to provide a multicultural education in schools.
