A Research on Alternative Tourism Potential of Karabakh and East Zangezur Regions

Abstract

The increase in alternative tourism types in developing destinations in the tourism market and the emergence of new product types in old destinations show that the demant for alternative tourism will increase in the future. The development of alternative tourism will help the development of not only touristic destinations but also non-touristy areas and will ensure that these regions receive their share of the country’s income. In this study, the geographical locations and alternative tourism potentials of Karabakh and East Zangezur regions, which have very important and cultural resources that were liberated from the Armenian occupation, were investigated. The research is important in terms of forming an idea about the problems and potential of Karabakh and East Zangezur regions, especially in the field of alternative tourism and emphasizing the contribution that it can provide to the development of the regions with the further development of this potential. As a data collection technique, the survey method was preferred in the research. The survey was conducted one-on-one to be applied to 180 people in total. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS 26.0 program. As a result, it has been concluded that Karabakh and East Zangezur regions have sufficient alternative tourism potential.
