Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of gender roles attributed to men on the level of self-compassion through dating violence and attachment anxiety applied by men. For this purpose, 445 adult individuals were included in the study. Inventory of Experiences in Close Relationships II, Attitude Scales towards Dating Violence, Gender Roles Attitude Scale and Self-Compassion Scale were used to collect data in the study. In the data collected through these data collection tools, firstly, it was checked whether there were extreme and/or extreme values, and then normality test was performed. As a result of the normality test, it was determined that the data set used in the research showed a normal distribution. For this reason, Pearson correlation analysis was used to examine whether there is a significant relationship between research variables. Path analysis was carried out in order to examine whether the fit index values of the model established within the scope of the research are within acceptable limits and to test the mediation effects. The results obtained show that there are significant relationships between the research variables and that the research model is within acceptable limits. In addition, it was found that men's dating violence and attachment anxiety had significant mediating effects in the relationship between gender roles attributed to men and self-compassion variables. The results obtained within the scope of the research were compared with the previous studies in the literature and the similarities and differences with these studies were discussed. In addition, within the scope of the research results, various suggestions were made to researchers who will carry out similar studies in the future and to clinicians working in the field.
