Preschool Teachers' Evaluation of the Transition Process: Perspective of Children in the Risk Group

Abstract

In the field of education, the changes experienced by the child during the process of settling in from one educational environment to another are referred to as "transition". In this application, which covers a process, it is aimed to carry the student with special needs to the next level with the highest potential. The aim of the study carried out is to determine the views of pre-school education teachers on the evaluation of the transition process of children in the risk group to primary education. The situations experienced by pre-school teachers in this process will be evaluated within the framework of the problems, needs and suggestions. The data of the research were collected with a semi-structured interview form. While determining the research participants, they were determined by using the "maximum diversity sampling" technique, which is one of the purposive sampling methods. In the evaluation of the transition period from preschool education period to primary school, teachers' opinions were analyzed with descriptive analysis technique. According to the results of the research, it has been revealed that the preschool students in the risk group show deficiencies in the areas of development, and support services are generally provided to the students with special education needs from special education and rehabilitation centers.
