Abstract

This study was conducted to raise awareness of the potential impact of the Covid-19 outbreak on tourism destinations. In this context, the study examined the changes in target expectations before and after the Covid-19 period and examined the impact of this change on expectations. Eight research questions were designed to serve the purpose. Research data was collected from participants (6) who were experts in the field of tourism (4) and from participants who were not (6) with the data collection form including the research questions and demographic information approved by the Ethics Committee of Iskenderun Technical University. Relevant data was collected between June 1st and 15th, 2020. The data were subjected to a content analysis. As a result of the analysis, the expectations before the Covid-19 period (for accommodation, eating and drinking areas, transport and general destinations) for individual areas are in the foreground, especially with regard to hygiene. However, post Covid-19, it is expected that the hygiene and disinfection regulations and uses for each area that is shared will be considered. In addition, the participants stated that they prefer to stay in hotels before the Covid-19 period, but prefer rental houses or rental villas for individual vacations after the Covid-19 period. Based on the research, there are changes in people's expectations and preferences towards goals with Covid-19. Because of these changes, it is believed that a reassessment of tourist expectations will restore tourism destinations.
