Social Identity in Team Athlete Youth

Abstract
The aim of this research is to examine the social identity levels of young people engaged in team sports in terms of various socio-demographic characteristics. The research is within the scope of the screening model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The study group of the research consists of 213 athletes (in Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball branches and between the ages of 18-23), including 118 boys and 95 girls engaged in team sports. In order to examine the social identity levels of the team athlete youth, the Social Identity Questionnaire for Sport developed by Bruner and Benson (2018) and adapted to Turkish by Turkay, Yetim and Sezer (2018) was applied. Independent-Samples T Test, One Way ANOVA was used to compare the average scores of the Social Identity Questionnaire for Sport of athletes participating in the research. Post-Hoc LSD test was used to determine the source of differences of questionnaire average scores between the groups. As a result of the research, according to the branches of athletes, participation in an international competition and having a member engaged in sport in the family, it was determined that there were differences in their social identity levels in sports.
